My friend Darlene emailed me last night and asked how to get the Pinterest widget I had on my blog. It would have been a simple answer—except that she has free WordPress.com and I don’t.
Self-hosted WordPress has a plethora of plugins to allow you to display recent pins from a specific Pinterest user or board (I use the Pinterest RSS Widget Plugin). However, WordPress.com has yet to provide any options for Pinterest other than the Pin It button.
But there’s an easy work-around. Just add the Flickr widget, but specify your Pinterest RSS URL instead!
1. Go to Widgets:

2. Find the Flickr widget and drag it into your sidebar or footer widget area:

3. Name the widget:

4. Specify your Pinterest RSS URL using one of these options:
- All your latest pins: http://pinterest.com/username/feed.rss
- Latest pins from a specific board: http://pinterest.com/username/boardname.rss
5. Click “Save.”
Note: Apparently a few WordPress.com themes will display an image as part of the item content when you add a basic RSS widget like this, but the ones I’ve tried have only displayed the pin name, not the image itself.

Do you display your latest Pinterest pins in your sidebar or footer? Have you found another workaround for doing so in WordPress.com?
(Thanks to “smugmughugs” for the workaround idea!)

Ya know, I’m sure this makes sense to most folks, or maybe it the after-effects of lugging all those produce boxes at the farmer’s market, but this makes my head bobble. I’ll read it again later and follow your instructions even if it sounds like another language.
And this: THANK YOU!
Blessings.
Thank you! This helped me out a lot.

Thank you! I have the free version of WordPress, so I don’t have the ability to add plugins (or maybe just not the know how!), but this helped me get my Pins in my sidebar. Thank you so much!
