“Come climb up here on Mama’s lap
And read a book with me.
I know of one that’s lots of fun.
Hop over and you’ll see!”
So said the Mama Kangaroo to Baby Roo in God Bless You & Good Night. The rhyming board book visits a different animal family’s bedtime routine on each page spread. From penguins to owls, giraffes to elephants, there’s snack time and bath time, story time and then bed time.
The simple rhymes by Hannah C. Hall are sweet and Steve Whitlow’s watercolor illustrations are fun (preview them here). My own little people love identifying the animals on each page (though a few have us stumped–Meerkats? Raccoon?). And the children like it so much that the story is read more than one time before it can actually be bed time.

loved the book God Bless You and Goodnight! it is a very cute and sweet book! Got one for my friends son a couple years ago and he loved it! I’m hoping to get one for my son. I love that it talks about God! I want to collect christian-like books, movies and shows for my kids so they’ll have the right influence. Gotta start them while their young. God Bless ya’ll
Hi Gretchen! Thanks for reviewing my book! Yes, they are meerkats and the “raccoons” are actually red pandas. I wasn’t familiar with them myself until I did a little research for the book. I appreciate the good review. Find me at HannahCHall.com 馃檪
God bless and Merry Christmas!
Songs and nursing in bed.
A little snuggle time, a favourite song and hugs and kisses…..SOMETIMES a story 馃檪 But we’re lacking in the bedtime storybook department,,,,Goodnight Moon is getting old!
When my granddaughter spends the night each of us, Popppa, Grammy(that’s me) and Izzee tell our own made up story. We play shadow puppets on the ceiling with a flash light, then sing songs…oh and we snuggle. 馃檪
I would love to have this for my grandbabies! Always on the lookout for good Christian influenced books for them. :0)
Our bedtime routine growing up was pj’s, brush teeth, get a [small] drink (so there were no “I’m thirsty!” cries once we were tucked in!), a story, prayer, and into bed. My little girl’s routine depends on whether Daddy or mommy are putting her to bed! Daddy reads lots of stories, sings all kinds of songs, makes up songs, makes up stories, and it helpless against her many stalling tactics. Momma’s cold-hearted, though!
Since I work with preschool children, I’m always on the lookout for good books to read to them. This sounds like a good one. I’d love to win a copy.
Bedtime routine at our house involves pajamas, usually getting youngest in bed first and all we do with him is nurse and lay him in his bed with a favorite blanket. With my oldest (2), we finish bedtime by reading stories and singing “Jesus Loves (Her name)” We tuck her in and she goes to sleep. This is very similar to the bedtime routine I remember as a kid.
Our bedtime routine is brushing teeth, reading the Bible, getting tucked in, and singing a song! 馃檪
My little guy wasn’t into books all that much until recently. He fell in love with a new book, that tells a jungle story complete with elephant, tiger, monkey and parrot sounds.
Now he needs to read that one and the children’s bible before he goes to bed.
And he loves reading any book now! It’s fun to snuggle up and read the stories I used to love as a child.:)
We have about a one hour time frame (8pm give or take 30 min) for when we declare bedtime. Usually depends on my husbands work schedule. The kids have a chart with 7 steps to complete before sleep (going potty, pajamas, brush teeth, read story, etc.) All in all, it’s a loose schedule and they have become good at adapting when necessary 馃檪
Jammies, teeth, and prayers. We don’t have one set prayer we say, we just take turns saying whatever is on our hearts. Thanks for the chance!
My boys LOVE animals and bedtime stories, this would be perfect!!
