God Listens When I Pray

We like Hermie and Wormie at our house. Can’t help it. They are just too cute. And their caterpillar characters have so much wisdom to share!
The latest Hermie book I got to review was no exception. Hermie runs smack-dab into a problem—his friend Antonio the Ant is stuck under a rock—and goes to find help, without ever stopping to pray.
Like most of us, Hermie runs around trying to fix it himself before finally remembering that God’s right there waiting to listen—and to help!
My girls (almost three and almost five!) both sat and listened to the entire “Level Two” Reader. the bright pictures captivate even our one-year-old little man, who has already given some “character” to the pages of our copy.

Our little one is still very little right now. But I think really one of the biggest things will be doing all of this ourselves. They will do what is modeled. If I pray about the little things with them, they will see it. So for now my biggest job is learning to trust God myself and ask him for all I need. 🙂
Modeling prayer is the best method to teach it — amen! And guess what? You won the book for reading to your little one! 🙂
We pray with our son David at the beginning of every day, before each meal, and at bedtime. David frequently interrupts our prayers with his own requests, which is great to me–I would far rather have him participating than “seen and not heard.” We also pray spontaneously with David throughout the day–when he’s crying, worried, or as he puts it “doesn’t know how to be good,” we pray that Jesus will show him. Praying continually together is a way that we hope to make David aware of the presence of God in our home and our lives, and help him remember he can’t do it by himself but Jesus is right there to help him.

Oh! This book looks so adorable and what a message to speak to a little one’s heart! 🙂
While I don’t have any children of my own yet, I do watch a little girl off and on who loves to read books and this would be a great addition to my collection.
From the time I began watching her, I taught her the importance of asking Jesus for help no matter how small a problem. When she was too young to quite understand this, I would say a prayer for her out loud asking Jesus to help her.
With my future children, I would emphasize praying to God and asking Him for help (etc.) would be likened to “a steering wheel” not just “popped tire” occasions. I know that instilling the habit of praying in a little child requires the parents to be consistent in prayer (especially when it comes to praying at waking moments, just before “lights out,” to bless the food). That’s how my parents raised my siblings and I… 🙂
