Our pink house

When I was a little girl, our dear old house was peeling so many colors of paint, you could chip away at it and find a bright rainbow of colors. Then I discovered that pink was one of the colors it had been painted many moons ago, and pleaded with my daddy to once again paint our house in my favorite color: pink.Daddy compromised by saying maybe we could paint the dog house pink. But by the time we got around to painting, I wasn’t convinced my dog Minta needed a pink house after all.

Fifteen years later, I have my pink house!

Merritt called tonight, to tell me he locked our front door when he left tonight.

Our front door!

With the help of his dad, his brother, my dad, and my dad’s friend, they finished the roof, put in the windows, hung the door, and wrapped our dear little house in pink Tyvek today.

It’s so exciting, after all these years of dreaming, after all the construction materials Merritt has collected…we finally have our own home! There’s lots more to do, but we have a roof for over our heads.

And until we put the siding on, our little house will be bright pink. But since we got engaged on February 14, the day of pink and red hearts, it just fits, don’t you think?

Living with my man in that little pink house will be home sweet home indeed.

Just 1047 hours, 56 minutes, and 55 seconds…

  1. Dear Gretchen,

This note is completely off topic but I do have a question I would like to ask you.

Do you plan on continuing with YLCF after you’re married? If not, do you plan on beginning/starting a new ministry – maybe to young marrieds and/or mothers?

I’m sure you’ll share with us, in good time, your future plans which may or may not include YLCF. . .The reason I’m asking is because, as of late, I have been trying to find something similar to YLCF for this approaching season of my life and have mostly come up short. There are some wonderful Blogs (www.girltalk.blogs.com, for example); however, there seems to be a gap between my season as a single young woman to my season (D.V) as a married young woman.

Also, I want to note that YLCF will continue to be a place I stop by regularly as a married woman. The musings, articles and comments posted here are founded in a shared desire to know Christ and bring Glory to our Lord – this desire does not change regardless of ones season.

Thanks Gretchen!!! May the Lord bless you as you approach your wedding day!! (what is it now, less then 5 weeks????? *smile*)

    your sister – Vanessa

  2. What many pleasures your posts bring to me, Gretchen! Thank you for writing about your home sweet home 🙂
May I be selfish and ask if you will continue to write after you are married?
I know that you will be very busy…but I am still hoping!!

  3. I’m so happy for you!!!!

sage green and light blue! (I have always thought those two colors would be pretty in a home. . .you
    have good tastes!!) 🙂

Enjoy these precious times, they are such joyful times and times of creating priceless memories!

    God Bless!

  4. Aww, thank you, Sarah. I’m afraid my joy is bubbling over a lot these days… 🙂

We haven’t decided what to paint the house yet. That’s a long ways off. The inside paint colors are chosen, though–sage green and a light blue. 🙂

  5. I am vicariously enjoying your emotions. I find your tender heart a good example. Thank you!

What will the house’s final color be?

  6. Naomi, I would love to show you a picture of my little pink house, but I haven’t even seen a picture yet! 🙂 When I can, I will be sure to share one…

Thank you for sharing my joy. 🙂

  7. I forgot you came to visit me right after writing that! It was our third visit together I believe–such lovely times!! *happy sigh*

It is entirely delightful to have you posting so much my dear bestest girlfriend (though soon to be no longer a maiden but queen of her own castle–what shall I call you then? :))!

  8. Oh Gretchen, your little house must look absolutely darling! I was about to ask how exactly you’re managing to stop yourself from falling over with excitement and rapture, but then I remembered that you’ve been waiting nearly 10 years for this.

Is there any way we can see a picture of this little pink house? Having lived all 21 years of my life in a terraced house in London (England), I would love to see a photo, if I may. : )

    Naomi.
