“I get the idea that you like green,” the painter said when he stepped into our house and surveyed our green bathroom walls, our blue-green kitchen walls, and the green paint on his hands.
“This color can actually look more blue, depending on the time of day,” I laughed. “But yes, we like green.”
Green and gray and blue. “The colors of the sea,” as Sarah, Plain and Tall would say.
We always gravitate towards the same shades.
The colors of the mountains. The trees, the snow, the grey-blue mist.
No matter how many paint chips we look at, we always like the same colors.
And I’d forgotten how nice it was to bring the real live outdoor colors inside once a year.
Because our Christmas tree doesn’t just look green, it smells green.
I’m a fellow green/blue/natural color lover!! In my mind, bathrooms should always be some shade of blue or green. We had our room blue for years and then painted it cream with blue accents. Oh, I love it!
and our kitchen cabinets? They’re green too!
I was lucky that when we moved in to our new home, our bedroom was already painted a pretty light green. My husband is color blind and I get met with a lot of resistance when ever I talk about painting anything any color but white. I love yellow kitchens, but otherwise every other room would be a shade of green…I did paint the trim in the guest bed room a sea green-blue. Love this and actually just read Sara Plain and Tall for the first time a few months ago–that quote was one that struck me, because those are my favorite colors–the colors of woods, mountains, sky, and water.
We, too, have lots of greens and blues in our house…..lots of earthly colors on the walls. I can’t wait until our big reno and I can redo all the rooms (I love paint and color).
I wish I could keep the green of a tree in our house all year round….it’s just so fresh!
Me, Too! In my third house since getting married, I finally allowed myself to paint every single room a shade of green or blue or a neutral as these are what make me happy. I quote Sarah Pain and Tall a lot. I love that we have these things in common!
Another of my favorite lines of hers – on choosing contentment – “There is always something to miss”
oh wow! This is gorgeous! I think I need to read Sarah, Plain and Tall, and I love love love that your tree smells green.
Blessings!
Phoebe
Oh, yes. I miss the smell of green this year (we have a one year old and decided it was better to just skip the tree this year). We gravitate toward the same colors, too, but mine are deep reds and russet browns and coppers. This is a wonderful 5MF post!
