John Deere Green

I’m celebrating John Deere Day by drinking Gypsy Cold Care tea and consuming Fishermen’s Friend cough drops. With spring just around the corner, I guess it’s the time to get a cold. So I’m staying warm under my down comforter, and about to delve back into E.M. Forester’s A Room with a View (a duplicate copy, and thus one of my few books that isn’t already packed). My toenails aren’t painted green this year, but still I’m wearin’ the green. In case you missed reading about it last year, St. Patrick‘s Day is John Deere Day to this soon-to-be farmer’s wife. So for the wearin’ o’ the green, nothing will do but my John Deere “Country Girl” t-shirt.

My brother Will gets home late tonight for spring break, so we’re saving our traditional corned beef and cabbage for tomorrow night. But thanks to the sales at Safeway, we’ll be enjoying corned beef for quite a few Sundays to come.

And since it’s a cold and rainy night, we might even pull out “The Quiet Man“, an old favorite in our family, which is of course, a St. Patrick’s Day tradition.

I’m off to my book, but I wanted to make sure you remembered why you’re wearin’ the green. Happy John Deere Day, y’all!

St. Patrick’s Day is an enchanted time –
a day to begin transforming winter’s dreams into summer’s magic.

  1. Why don’t John Deere fans create a day of their own and not try to steal our St. Patricks Day?!

I say that with a smile, because I think it is funny how many people claim to be Irish for St. Patty’s Day and wear green. But really, I am in earnest as well. Just because Shamrocks are green and so are some tractors it dosen’t mean that they have a connection.

    God Bless!

  2. I think I have watched the Quiet Man more than any movie in the world. However, I didn’t see it yesterday. We were up to late celebrating the Day.

  3. Mia, I found my t-shirt in the Junior’s section at Fred Meyer. We found our sweatshirts there, too, but I’ve seen them at Maurice’s, as well. John Deere dealers are always a great place to look. Plus you can find a large variety of them on deere.com/gifts, 80stees.com, ebay.com and by just searching Yahoo. Hope you find the perfect one. 🙂

And sorry, Lanier, but I just never see anyone wearing Massey-Ferguson t-shirts! 😉

  4. I love the picture and post!!! I am wondering… where did you happen to find your John Deere “country girl” shirt? I’ve been wanting one and haven’t been able to find one!

  5. That’s adorable, Gretchen… 🙂
You made me think of my best friend’s littlest son, a precious three and-a-half year-old farmer in the making. He calls his Grandaddy ‘Grandpa John Deere’ owing to his constant association with his tractor. He’s been dictating almost daily letters to his Grandaddy since they’ve been visiting here that always begin, “Dear Grandpa John Deere,” 🙂
Maybe someday you and Merritt will be ‘Grandpa and Grandma John Deere’ to a little tyke who wants to be a farmer when he grows up! 😉
And I love ‘The Quiet Man’, too…

    p.s. Sorry, but we’re Massey-Ferguson folks…;)

  6. I’m sorry you have a cold. . .I’m fighting one too.

Cute twist to this holiday, I like it. . .Happy John Deere Day to you too!
